Philippe reached deep into his magic pocket, pulled out the last remaining VEED, and dropped them into one of the many bags stuffed to capacity laying on the ground. “Whew! That was more than I expected. I didn’t realize my pocket could run out of anything, but I guess this is it.”
Armstrong rolled past the bags and whistled. “That’s a lot. How are we going to get this all out before the magic fades?”
“Hmm. Good question indeed. I thought the two of us could handle this, but I’m now having second thoughts.”
“I’m at the top of my game,” replied Armstrong. “I can’t train any more and I’m full of VEED. Even with that in mind, I can’t cover enough ground fast enough.”
“Can’t you call your fast friend, Austrför? Don’t you have him on speed dial?” Philippe chuckled at his lame joke.
Armstrong rolled his eyes and ignored him. “I can’t call him for just anything. It has to be an emergency or something.”
“It was worth a shot.” Philippe paced back and forth for a few moments. “I got it! That Garu bird and his friends can help out. They’re trustworthy. And they can cover ground fairly quickly. Even that Hoppy the Toad dude.”
“I think he’s called ‘Hoppiua,’ and I think his skill is luck or fortune or something like that.” Armstrong tried to think back at what he had heard. “Everything’s a blur after the battle.”
“It probably doesn’t matter,” shrugged Philippe. “We can reach out to all the birds to help out. Can you reach out to GrOwl and Gobbles?”
“Definitely, but Gobbles can’t really fly, especially with one of these overstuffed bags.”
“We’d better start getting all the help we can,” said Philippe. “Time is running out. We’ve got to start getting this stuff out in the next few days or it’ll be too late.”
Armstrong gave a quick salute and rolled away as fast as he could. Philippe reached into his pocket and pulled out his ornate ivory phone. “I just hope Garu can get here fast enough.”
